🎶 Senior Charrod McCullough is officially one of the 28 best small high school tenors in the ENTIRE STATE after earning a spot on the Texas All-State Small School Choir. He survived three elimination rounds, during which he had to learn new music in addition to his class music, perform it before a five-judge panel, and sight read acapella an excerpt of never-before-seen music — with only 30 SECONDS to prepare. 😳
"This is the very highest competitive honor a high school choir student can earn,” said AHS Choir Director Elizabeth VanOrden. “Charrod worked tirelessly to achieve the goal he set himself.”
Charrod will perform with the Texas All-State Small School Choir in San Antonio on Feb. 10 at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Convention.
We are so proud!
It’s a great time to be a Hornet, as we also have two students in Austin today. Juniors Cooper Rich (left) and Isaac Hoch are competing individually in the UIL Congress State Tournament held at the state capitol and the UT Austin campus.
Student congress attempts to replicate the workings of an official legislature. Competitors formulate legislative bills and resolutions, debate them, and adopt or reject them by casting votes. Cooper and Isaac are coached by Walter Willis and William Honea.
Good luck, guys!
